Sue Shannon

After owning my own hairdressing business for 10 years I decided to pursue my long term passion for Art and Design. I started my career as an artist 18 years ago by attending college as a mature student on an A level course in Art and Design. After completing the course I progressed onto a BTech Nation Diploma, and later onto the Designer Craftsman course.

During the A level and BTech courses I covered every aspect of art and design, and was able to develop my painting skills using every media available to me. I found that pastel paintings were my strength and that I developed my designs from my paintings. My love of bright jewel colours in my clothing, led me to pursue my interest in dyeing processes. This in turn sparked my interest in batik and devore techniques, developing images taken from natural forms and architecture.

On the Designer Craftsmen course I specialised in batik and devore and have developed my fashion ideas further to include accessories and clothing. Using both negative and positive space in my choice of image I have been able to incorporate more exciting colours and shapes in my batik work.

I have studied the art of calligraphy for 20 years and have been commissioned to produce several pieces of work. I have produced work for galleries on a regular basis and teach art to mature students on a weekly basis. I also teach private sessions on a one to one basis.
