DEBBIE BARBER

After 10 years specialising in textiles I retrained as a potter. I am drawn to 3 dimensional forms often difficult to achieve successfully in fabric. I still retain my love of surface detail, pattern, texture and the use of colour.

My pots are strong, simple forms and are more for decorative use than they are functional. I like to combine glazed areas with unglazed and experiment with different firing techniques such as Raku and Smoke Firing.

I use natural form as inspiration for my shapes which may be thrown, cast or hand-built. I mainly use stoneware clays but not exclusively, I also work with earthenware and porcelain.

I have a particular interest in garden ceramics and sculptural forms, this is the area I wish to develop in my work.
